Malaysia wants to hold WhatsApp group admins responsible for fake news spread over chat

WhatsApp group admins could find themselves in trouble with the law in Malaysia, if the people in their groups spread fake news over the popular chat app.

A Malaysian minister has warned that existing media laws could be used to prosecute WhatsApp users for the links they share.

Deputy communications minister, Johari Gilani, was quoted by national daily, Berita Harian, saying that people could be hauled up if they "jeopardise national security."

The internet questions the logic of smuggling nukes in bales of weed

No, that's not a question posed by a dude outside a Hardee's. It was a very serious scenario imagined by a member of Congress.

During a briefing Wednesday, Brad Sherman raised some concerns about North Korea with Vice President Mike Pence. Later, he tweeted out what was said, and while he made a few good points, the internet only remembers one of them. 

I raised two issues: No. Korea could smuggle nuke into U.S. rather than use ICBM. Could smuggle inside a bale of marijuana....(1/2)

Teenagers are taking breaks from social media —but are you?

We've been led to believe that teens are always on their phones or glued to some sort of screen.

But a study out Thursday shows that teenagers are better at monitoring their online lives than we thought. An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey looked at how often and why teens step away from social media sites and platforms.

After talking to 790 teens between 13 and 17 years old last December, the researchers found that nearly 60 percent of teens have taken a break from social media. Half of the teens surveyed said their breaks last about a week or even longer. That's an entire week of no snaps, or tweets, or video updates.  Read more...
